However, it is important to emphasize that not everyone is suitable for whitening. Before each whitening treatment, we thoroughly examine the teeth and gums.

In the case of patients with sensitive teeth or, for example, inflamed gums, we cannot carry out whitening before the dental health has stabilized.

Whitening and professional teeth cleaning are two different procedures that have different purposes.

A professional teeth cleaning, also known as prophylaxis, is a thorough cleaning of the teeth and gums to remove bacteria that otherwise have a negative effect on the organism.

This results in a brightening effect, which is more of a positive side effect.

The whitening effect is not as strong and long-lasting as with professional whitening.

However, regular professional teeth cleaning helps to maintain the whitening effects in the long term.

There are forms of whitening (home whitening) in which teeth can be whitened at home with so-called whitening splints.

We do not recommend this method as there is a higher risk of damage to the teeth and gums with home whitening. If the trays are not properly adjusted or if the whitening solution is left on the teeth for too long, it will damage the teeth and the enamel.

In addition, it is more difficult to achieve an even whitening of the teeth with home whitening because the trays do not fit as tightly as with professional whitening in the dentist's office.

Also, home whitening is typically less effective than professional in-office whitening at a dentist's office because the whitening solution contains a lower concentration of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.

Although whitening toothpastes can remove surface stains, they contain abrasive ingredients that damage tooth enamel over time.

Damage to this protective layer can have long-term consequences, such as increased tooth sensitivity and a higher risk of tooth decay.

It is therefore advisable to resort to professional methods of teeth whitening.

It is possible that a professional tooth cleaning must be carried out in advance. This takes about 1 hour.

Too frequent bleaching can weaken the tooth enamel, so you should not usually whiten your teeth more than once a year.
